Aarthi Ramamurthy from Chennai, India, Founder & CEO of Lumoid, start-up that provides a try-before-you-buy rental services for consumer on gadgets, electronics and photo-equipment before buying. It allows potential consumers try out the expensive products they’re thinking of buying —-like the Apple Watch, which users can rent for between $45 and %55 (and usually retails for $350 and up).
She has a master in Software Engineering. Aarthi, 31 year-old was recruited by Microsoft where she worked for around 6 years as one of their youngest product manager and has built products such as XBOX LIVE and Netflix’s video streaming software, before founding Lumoid.
It’s what the software engineer turned CEO says is the future of retail, an overdue improvement that’s not changing the way people buy things as much as it’s accommodating how they already do. “You want access over ownership,” she says. “And, you want people to test drive before buying.”
