Reality: No Technical Jobs for Engineers

This article is submitted to us by Rishab, we haven’t edited the content. We don’t know him and we are not revealing his identity either. Whatever he mailed us, we are posting it as it is or says Revealing it as it is.

My name is “Rishab” and I graduated in 2015 from a renowned college of Lucknow (We are not revealing its name). It was my dream from always to do something exciting, worthful in life. Engineering was my dream from always. Even getting news from everywhere that there are no jobs left in engineering and such, I still joined Mechanical Engineering. I followed every set rule which my elders and faculty used to say.

I never bunked classes (not always), studied sincerely, worked on live projects, score well in semesters. Soon I realized that engineering is a myth. There’s nothing like car designing in Mechanical or real hacking thing in Computer science nor any real engineering in other branches. Only assignments, giving exams and scoring well. No one ever response against the system. If anyone even thinks so to do something like this, then others demotivate him by saying that this is the system, everyone has to follow it.

During my placements, only 2 companies visited my college. TCS gave me the job with 10 thousand rupees in Bangalore. Now, How anyone from a normal middle-class family will able to live in Bangalore with 10K salary where the rent of room is 8k. I spent 6 lacs rupees on my engineering and even after doing everything well, 10 thousand rupees salary is what I received. That year, my college advertised with their posters that “100% placement with the highest package of 16 lacs”. But I never found anyone in my batch with 16 lac package.

I didn’t opt the job obviously. I started working in one internet café under 5 thousand rupees salary which I left after few weeks. I started living in my house with no future goals. In the market, only CS engineer seemed to manage to earn their living somehow. It was clear that there’s no job for me.

Now, I’m preparing for SSC entrance exam and my B.tech degree is still inside in my almirah in my bedroom. I also give tuition to one student of class 9th for 2 thousand rupees. I’m of 24 now.
